We have visited many beautiful places around the World, yet only a few sums up as Paradise.
That is the Azores!
The Azores are volcanic Portuguese islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago is the furthest West of Europe you can get. If you go further, you reach the Americas.
Azores Islands are the greenest of green, the bluest of blue and the kindest of kind. It is also the first archipelago that achieved gold certification as a sustainable tourist destination. You can easily combine your cycling holiday with some days of other activities such as whale watching and hiking.
You benefit from a mild climate most of the year, although there is less activity on the islands in the winter months where restaurants may be closed (mid-December to mid-February).
While the Azores are in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, they have every aspect that mainland Portugal has to offer. The local language is Portuguese, but everyone speaks a very good English.
Terceira is one of the biggest of the Azore islands and much less visited than São Miguel. You will be surprised of the few people that you will meet on your road while soul bathing in the magnificent landscapes.
During these 7 days you will visit stunning coastline and the dramatic interior of Terceira. You have time to enjoy the landscape, discover bays and hidden places, take a bath in natural swimming pools and visit small museums.
You start by spending a few nights and ride from the oldest town of the Azores and a UNESCO site, Angra do Heroismo. Charles Darwin visited the Azores on the way back from the Galapagos Islands and docked in the bay of Angra do Heroísmo. He made discoveries on the island and later wrote about it.
Our local bike tour partner will meet you at your arrival on the first day, give you the bikes and introduce you to the itinerary for your self-guided roundtrip.
